Item Description
This is an exquisite and extremely rare antique Spanish santo of Madonna and Child that dates from the mid 19th century. The santo represents "La Virgen del Carmen" or Our Lady of Mount Carmel. What makes it quite remarkable is that it was discovered in intact silk robes with a luscious gold work hand embroidery. Both, the Virgin and the Child have Scapulars. They are adorned with solid silver crowns, halos, an orb with a cross [in the Child's hand] as well as a stunning rose sceptre [in the Virgin's hand]. The figures are hand carved from wood - except for the glass eyes - with great artistic quality. They are positioned on a wooden stand that is partially gilded. All together it measures about 88 x 33 x 33 cm or approximately 34.6 x 13 x 13 inches and it is in a lovely antique condition with minor signs of ageing which brings forth its true precious beauty and splendour today. In my personal opinion, this is a museum quality artefact, outstanding in so many ways. It is exactly as I discovered it. For the full condition please refer to the images!
