Item Description

This is an absolutely gorgeous antique French portrait painting that dates from the 19th century. Discovered recently in Beziers in the South of France, this stunning oil on canvas is wonderful in its artistic expression with smooth brush strokes and immaculate attention to detail. This is a portrait of Marie Pieyre - when she was 15 years old - painted in Paris in 1868 by the artist Pauline Queilat [signed on the lower right]. An old label found on the back of the painting also mentions that the sitter was married to Pierre-Albin Rieu de Montvaillant. The artist Pauline Queilat who was originally from Uzès, was active in Paris and exhibited at the Salon of 1870. The painting was recently framed in a beautiful wood frame with a green fabric mounting measuring about 80 x 70 x 6 cm or approximately 31.4 x 27.5 x 2.3 inches. The canvas is on its original wood stretcher measuring 60 x 50 cm or about 23.6 x 19.6 inches. The overall condition of the painting is good, with minor signs of ageing [a few little marks]. There are signs of later restoration in the background above the portrait. This is highly romantic painting with exceptional presence. For the full condition please refer to the images!
