Item Description
This is a truly spectacular and extremely rare antique Provencal horse head that was discovered recently in L'isle-sur-la-Sorgue in the South of France. Dating from the 1800's, this magnificent and one of a kind treasure was created as the shop sign for an equestrian or horse riding school. The horse head which is in life size is made masterfully from zinc that was gilded and later mounted on a wooden board with easel legs attached on its back. This way the masterpiece can stand freely, or - with the legs folded, it can also be hung on a wall as an outstanding and captivating display. It is in lovely antique condition with signs of ageing mainly seen in a fabulous patina created by the passage of times. Some of the gilding has flaked away giving it a wonderful distressed appeal. It is exactly as I discovered it. For the full condition please refer to the images!
