Item Description

A pair of antique oak panels of classically dressed figures thought to be saints.

Dating to circa 1800, these Georgian period panels have a neoclassical flair as the figures are displayed dressed in drapes standing on decorated pedestals in a columned doorway or niche.

The one figure is thought to be St Agnes of Rome, often depicted with a lamb ('Agnus' in latin), is the patroness of girls and virgins.

The other shows a figure carrying a column on their right shoulder, who is thought to be Saint Sebastian, patron of archers and athletes, as he was shot with arrows while tied to a column in a niche much like this.

You can just imagine this pair placed either side of a doorway to create a dramatic entrance or styled together on an empty interior wall to add unique style.

CONDITION REPORT

Good structural condition. Previously part of a piece of furniture. One panel has a small cut out to the reverse. Hooks for hanging.
