Item Description
A small skillet, being a rare example of an otherwise ordinary bronze cooking pan.
Produced at the Warner foundry in London, St. Giles, Cripplegate, seemingly when the works were under the sole direction of Tomson Warner. Warners were well-known London bellfounders and braziers from the beginning of the eighteenth century until early in the 20th century. Tomson Warner succeeded to the works alongside his brother John on the death of their father, Jacob, in 1762. John left the partnership in 1780 leaving the business under the sole direction of Tomson and it is thought that the vast majority of skillets were cast under the direction of Tomson Warner until his death in 1816.
In excellent condition retaining an excellent colour and patination.
