Item Description

A wonderful brass door knocker surmounted by a lion, representative of England's growing international dominance at the time this was made, circa 1800.

The knocker itself is cast with the laurel of victory and the three leaves supporting the blank tablet, that could have been engraved with a house name, are the palm leaves representative of the Battle of the Nile; the first of Admiral Nelson's three great victories. The integral boss is cast with as a rose flower; a symbol of England since the Battle of the Roses.

9.75 inches x 6.25 inches.
