Item Description

A small collection of mounted horse brasses, all Victorian or thereabout.

The small heart-shaped badge above the horseshoe and horses' head is an award from Our Dumb Friends League, A Society for the Encouragement of Kindness to Animals, given to one Harry Aslett and engraved with his name to the reverse.

The longest strap with double brasses 16.75 inches in length.

"Our Dumb Friends League" was founded in 1897, changing their name to The Blue Cross Fund in 1950. Their initial concern was for the welfare of working horses. The poster for the league, an example of which is held at the Imperial War Museum, has at its centre a representation of a relief sculpture made by J.W. Hardy; the sculptor of the model of The King's Horse Florizel ll, stock number 1306 on our website.
