Item Description

A curious pair of 'white brass', 'nickel', or 'paktong' candlesticks.

For a very similar pair of candlesticks with this distinctive squared dome, see Keith Pinn's catalogue, No. 55. The question of title for the metal is inconclusive; the metallurgy being borderline and the style appearing not old enough to allow these to be paktong. However, the Harrison models, catalogue Nos 50 & 51 are also very similar and are known to precede 1830.

Chunky to look at and hold, well made with a baize-covered wooden insert to the base, (most often seen in Georgian candlesticks) and push-up rod ejectors.

Probably English, circa 1840.

h:10 1/8 in x dia:4 1/4 in.
