Item Description

A fine Charles X ormolu and mother-o-pearl counter or marker for the French game of Piquet, the fine quality and combination of mother-o-pearl mounted in a decorated ormolu frame tells of its Palais Royal, Paris, origins.

Each of the sliding knobs is set with a paste 'ruby'.

Made circa 1825.

4 inches x 2 7/8 inches This counter follows a bi-quinary decimal system whereby once you have reached a score of 5 you close the 4 slides marked '1' and open that marked '5', and so on until you reach 50.
