Renaras designs and re-imagines existing Japanese ceremonial silk into contemporary pieces for daily life - this is our mottainai: the bringing of new imagination into a living tradition.

Working from an atelier in Amsterdam, we take Japanese ceremonial silk - obi and kimono textiles that once marked occasions and seasons - and transform them into objects for the home: wall tapestries, lumbar pillows, table runners, and framed textile panels.

Each textile is designed, cut, and constructed by hand. Because every silk carries its own pattern, weave, and history, no piece can be repeated. What we make is singular by nature, not by edition.

We work in the spirit of mottainai - honouring the inherent value of a material too beautiful to be left unworn. The silk's first life ends; its second begins on a wall, across a table, or in the hand.
