Item Description

A large cylindrical hall lantern in gilt metal in the Louis XVI manner, of impressive scale, dating from the late twentieth century. The drum is glazed with curved glass panels set between slender glazing bars, surmounted by a bell-shaped crown of curved rods rising to a suspension loop, with acorn finials to the top rim and ball finials below. The lantern is generously lit by an eight-light cluster on a central stem, the scrolled arms with circular drip pans — giving far more light than the usual three- or four-light lantern of this form, and making it as suitable over a stairwell or hall table as in an entrance. Good recent wiring; supplied with chain and ceiling rose, the chain adjustable to suit the drop. Lantern body 90 cm high × 50 cm diameter; full drop as photographed 153 cm.
