Item Description
Good quality Louis XV style painted marble top commode c.1950. Original inch thick pale marble top with serpentine shaped and moulded edges over a bombe shaped chest of two drawers. Painted across the drawer fronts is a large 18th.c. style scene of figures in a landscape with frolicking putti, floral swags and scrolling foliate border. The decoration continues on the sides with two further landscapes in lively borders. All against a cream ground with crackle effect. Decorative brass handles and escutcheon plates to the drawers and superb large brass mounts to the front corners, continuing down to the feet. Shaped apron to the front and sides highlighted with a gilded edge. Solid chestnut drawer linings. Excellent condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
Note we also have for sale a matching pair of bedside cabinets.
