Item Description
A characterful Regency mahogany library armchair, the back with a broad panelled top rail terminating in carved scrolls, above a finely executed mid-rail centred by a carved fan motif. Scrolled arms bearing continuous reeding flank a drop-in upholstered seat, all raised on reeded sabre front legs.
The pronounced profile and generous proportions indicate its suitability as a desk chair or commanding reading seat within a study. It strongly embodies the unpretentious, lived-in elegance of the authentic English country house aesthetic.
Very good antique condition, retaining a deep patination and surface wear consistent with age, while featuring various highly charming historic repairs including 19th-century iron strap repairs to the rear stiles. Structurally sound, clean and ready to place in the home.
English, circa 1820.
