Item Description
Early Heriz carpets from north-west Persia are in a class of their own. Prized for their geometric designs, fine durable construction, and creative use of vegetable-dyed colours, they make ideal long-lasting rugs and have always stood out for their striking tribal motifs. In our experience, Heriz carpets prove to be among the most versatile decorative weavings, with the ability to unite both modern and traditional design elements in a room.
This charming circa 1890 Heriz runner features a bold, graphic medallion motif, creatively repeated across the field in a variety of earthy red ochre, sage green, and cornflower blue tones, with accents of saffron, terracotta and ivory – a wide palette, well complimented by a rare muted blue ground. Being an earlier piece, it boasts a charming naiviety and excellent quality dyes. The central design is framed by a decorative border of good proportions.
Retained in very good practical condition for everyday use, this antique Heriz runner still retains its outer borders and fringes on all sides, and its vegetable dyed colours have taken on a mellow patina.
A handsome tribal piece, to add charm and character to any setting.
