Item Description
An 18th Century French Cherrywood Commode with Three Drawers.
This commode is a good example of French provincial furniture in the late Louis XV and early Louis XVI taste. The legs are restrained cabriole legs of that period. The handles are of restrained rococo rather than neoclassical pattern. Veneered in cherrywood, and inlaid in contrasting satinwood and rosewood. The inlay scheme is beautiful and consistent. The top features a large inlaid panel in rosewood with contrasting bookmatched timber in the centre. This same design is then used on the drawer fronts and pilasters which are also inlaid and panalled.
