Item Description
Set of Ten 18th Century Italian Painted Chairs with Original Patinated Parcel Gilding.
The interlaced back splats have a rococo influence, and the tapering square sectioned legs have more of a neoclassical feel. These chairs are a transitional design, produced in the third quarter of the 18th century as the fashions began to shift between the two styles and these chairs capture the best elements of each of them. The frames are well carved and refined and the chairs retain much of their original paintwork and their original patinated parcel gilt highlights on the shells, the edges of the splats and legs, and on the top side of the seat rails and stretchers.
It is unusual to find a set of ten chairs of this period in such good condition. The seats have been newly upholstered to an under finish, ready for the client's choice of final fabric or could be left as they are for a contemporary look.
