Item Description
Two early 19th Century 'rat de cave' cellar candlesticks
Rat de cave, or cellar rat, candlesticks were used to light French wine cellars in the 18th and 19th Centuries.
These functional yet beautiful pieces are comprised of a wrought iron corkscrew spiral on a wooden base. The spiral form helped to control the height of the candle flame.
Lovely aged patina. Unique and primitive decorative pieces.
