Item Description
A superb and finely made Arts & Crafts movement four-fold double sided oak screen, with embossed paper inserts displaying richly worked botanical motifs. English. Circa 1900.
Each panel is mounted on quality heavy duty brass double-acting hinges, three per panel, all working smoothly.
The embossed sections all have a leather like finish, darkened with age and showing a slight greenish antique gold gilt tinge to the background. The four main large, central panels display (on both sides of the screen) stylised flowers, scrolling foliage, seed pods, fruiting branches, and stylised birds in flight. The top and lower smaller panels are less embossed, showing foliage and birds to the top and foliage to the bottom.
The wooden based panels sit within solid quartersawn oak frames, retaining their original patina. The frames show marks, bruising and knocks from use, and the embossed paper have some expected losses, crease lines and light scuffs. Please refer to the photographs.
