Item Description
Magnificent 19th century French cushioned mirror, circa 1880. The outer frame is decorated with an elegant, raised, scrolling leaf design surrounding burnished trefoil medallions and the inner frame has alternating narrow and long beading. The two frames are linked with a winged leaf design leading to a fanned leaf on the outside edge and the mirror is topped with a wide floral and foliate cartouche with a smaller floral and foliate decoration along the base. Each section of the mirror has original glass in excellent condition with a bevelled central plate. This superb mirror would have graced a very important house in France and was purchased at auction near Biarritz. (The supporting wooden legs would be removed before hanging.)
