1960’s Combi Star adjustable amchair designed by Arnt Lande

Arnt Lande ( 1920-2005 )designed for Stokke Mobler of Norway and unlike some designers seems to have stayed in the background so isn’t as well known as some other Norwegian Mid-Century designers. This chair mainly turns up in Europe and there is a difference in opinion as to when it was designed with 1 seller saying 1958 and another 1962 ! We bought this one locally and then a few weeks later bought a second one in the south of England. We think it could be made under license by Gimson and Slater as they made the famous Rock n Rest chairs and another couple of Norwegian designs that way in the early to mid-1960’s. We have a couple of their catalogue/brochures from the 1960’s, but although they show other Norwegian designs this isn’t shown.

The chair is known as The Combi Star presumably as it is adjustable so can be placed in a combination of positions.

We’ve cleaned and re-upholstered this one, and have another that needs re-doing so if you like the model, but don’t like the fabric then we can have the other one done to order. The fabric is old-stock Bute and we have some more of it available, but it wasn’t in current production when we last looked.

68cms wide, seat height 39cms, back height 98cms, total depth 87cms

Condition
The teak frame has been cleaned and oiled. The upholstery has been stripped back and totally redone to current UK standards. As with all vintage furniture you must expect to see some minor signs of wear to the frame if you look very closely.
