Item Description
Danish Biedermeier mahogany and walnut pillar cabinet.
A lovely example of a Danish oval pillar cabinet made circa 1830 in great condition. We’ve found 2 or 3 similar ones online so there must have been a specialist maker of these in the 1830’s or a bit later in Denmark. This one is particularly nice as the door has lovely figured walnut veneers and nicer carving than others which mainly turn up in Germany.
Original fitted shelves and a rack that is apparently for “drinking spoons”. It would make a great drinks cabinet and ideal stand for a piece of sculpture.
The Biedermeier style was popular with wealthy German and North European families in the first half of the 19th century, but these pilar cabinets seem to have been a speciality of high end Danish cabinet makers. Sourced in the UK, but originally from Copenhagen.
154cms high 65cms at widest
Condition
The mahogany and walnut in lovely original condition with a lovely patina. Some of the stringing had to be replaced as it was missing. The base with very small veneer losses which has to be expected after some 200 years.
