Item Description

You’ll see a few of these beautifully made coffee tables but this is the only we can find with Royal Copenhagen Baca tiles to the top.

Frits Henningsen (1889-1965) was one of the first wave of Danish furniture designers as he first started as an active member of the Cabinet Makers Guild in 1927. A designer as well as owning his own workshop in Copenhagen. His entry in Wikipedia says ” he was admired by his peers for the high quality of his craftsmanship “. He sometimes used ceramic tiles in his 1930’s tables but it’s unusual to see them in later pieces like this one.

Nils Thorsson was a very talented ceramics designer and was chief designer at Royal Copenhagen/Aluminia for many years . His Baca range of vases, dishes and tiles dates to the mid 1960’s . The tiles are a known design and sometimes appear singly for sale. We found some available on Etsy.

The elegant table with it’s 4 drawers probably dates in form to the 1950’s but was still being made well into the 1960’s. This lovely table may have been a special order, perhaps to show the tiles at an exhibition.

Tiles to the tops of coffee tables are a great idea as they protect the tops from heat and spillages.

Condition
The top had some slight wear to the rosewood polish, so it’s been cleaned and re-finished and looks lovely. The frame and legs were in lovely condition so needed no attention . The brass caps to the feet are in good vintage condition . We can see no cracks or chips to the tiles .
