Guy Rogers New Yorker Afrormosia Teak Sofa Newly Upholstered

1960’s Guy Rogers New Yorker sofa newly upholstered. Fully restored three seat sofa with new webbing and foam cushions.

The New Yorker range from Guy Rogers is sculptural and Scandinavian in style. Their successful Manhattan range is more commonly seen today and was 20% cheaper than these New Yorker designs. Designed by George Fejer and Eric Pamphillon in the early 1960’s it’s more stylish than the Manhattan and we therefore try to buy them when we get the chance.

George Fejer was an independent designer who was highly successful in the 1960’s working for a number of well known companies whilst Eric Pamphillon was an in-house designer specialising in upholstered furniture. Guy Rogers were the largest maker of contemporary sofas and chairs in the 1960’s and early 1970’s.

174cms wide , seat height 40cms , back height 80cms , depth 98cms

 Condition . It’s been re-webbed using Pirelli webbing as would have been used originally. New foam cushions with fire-retardant fabric all to current UK Fire Regulations. The fabric is pale grey with red, orange, lime and yellow thread running through it which makes it very versatile. The cushion covers are zipped.

The solid afrormosia frame has been cleaned and oiled. They were originaly given a natural oiled finish which we much prefer to French polished or polyurethane finishes which were popular in the 1970’s and 1980’s. As with all vintage furniture you must expect to see some minor signs of wear if you look very closely but this is in excellent condition for its age.
