Near pair of Haslev side tables by Severin Hansen Jnr

Severin Hansen Jnr designed this very successful range with it’s lovely simple mitred joints to the legs. The well known Danish maker Haslev used the design on coffee tables, nests and lamp tables. The design was extended using undershelves in wood and very occasionally also with cane, and again by adding frieze drawers to make bedside tables and writing tables. Mainly made in teak or rosewood the range was also sometimes made in mahogany and light oak. It’s mainly the plain tables that were sold at the time, so there is a premium attached to models with under shelves and even more for those with drawers.

We bought these tables together, but the previous owner must have bought one then added a second one of a slightly different size. Although the heights are often standard at 50.5cms, the tables were made in an amazing number of different widths and depths so it’s virtually impossible to match up pairs exactly. Back in the day people didn’t buy pairs the way they look them for them today.

As you’ll see here we have 2 that look to be the same size until you place them side by side. They’re both in mahogany.

Both 50.5cms high. One 59cms x 35.5cms, the other 57cms x37cm 

Condition
Fully cleaned and oiled with no obvious marks or scratches. As with all vintage furniture you must expect to see some minor signs of wear if you look closely.
