Item Description
Nissen of Denmark teak wine rack
Nissen were a very interesting company who started out making barrels for Lurpak ! The family owned business was approached to make trays and other pieces for the newly formed Dansk Designs when it was established as their knowledge of making barrels and other pieces meant they had all the capabilities to make staved teak items for Dansk . When Dansk decided to reduce costs by taking production to Burma and Thailand in the late 1960’s the ever adaptable Richard Nissen started producing his own designs of which this is one . The company successfully carried on making great pieces in teak and rosewood such as salad bowls , pepper grinders , ice boxes etc into the mid 1970’s before being taken over by Bodum .
Richard Nissen was an amazing man who knew so much about how wood could be used . He also successfully patented some of his production ideas which were then used for mass production by IKEA .
Stamped Nissen Langaa ( which is where the factory was based ) in a few places this solid teak wine rack is simple but beautifully made . As you’ll see it holds 9 bottles .
Condition
Given a light clean and oiled with no obvious marks or damage . As with all vintage pieces you must expect to see some minor signs of wear if you look very closely .
