Item Description
Two 1950’s Rorstrand chamotte vases Gunnar Nylund
Gunnar Nylund was artistic director at the Swedish ceramic makers Rorstrand at a time when they also employed other ceramic designers such as Carl Harry Stalhane. The chamotte range from the 1950’s has a very chunky Art Deco styling which you either love or hate. It’s a white stoneware with a colourful glaze, in this case an amber colouring. His bulbous chamotte vases with a spiky finish are particularly sought after today, but we also like these stylish lobed flower vases which are unlike anything else made at the time.
We bought them together but the colour of the glaze is slightly different so we’re not describing them as a pair.
We also have a pair of candle holders which are shown in one of the photos.
Both stamped Rorstrand
Height 15cms, width 20.5cms weight 1.65kgs each
Condition
One with chip to underside of base but this isn’t visible externally. Shown in 1 of the photos
