Item Description

Antique Original Oil on Canvas Painting Depicting a Male Sitter

A captivating portrait of a handsome man with rosy lips and dark swept back hair, dressed in an unbuttoned blue cotton shirt.

Painted with plenty of feeling and emotion, there is a sensitivity to it, perhaps the artist knew the sitter well.

The work is unsigned but it appears to be by a good, confident hand.

Probably dating from the early to mid 20th century period. Circa 1910s-1930s in date.

Framed in a much earlier, yet complimentary and highly decorative gilt frame. Possibly as early as the 18th century looking at its construction.

The painting itself is in good vintage condition, there are no serious issues, there are a few small areas of bruised canvas to the background with what appear to be some small areas of historic touch up but these aren’t hugely noticeable. The antique frame is time worn with areas of wear throughout and some minor losses etc. but we think this adds to its overall aesthetic.

Approximate overall measurements: 67cm x 57cm x 5cm. The canvas measures approximately 51cm x 41cm.
