Item Description
A late 18th-century Alpine folk marriage chest in hand-painted fir. The upper section opens from the top, while the lower section features a large drawer. The front is hand-painted with exquisite garlands of flowers divided into three parts: the left and right panels are enclosed in four frames across the main body and drawer, while a looser garland surrounds the central locks. Vibrant green, red, white, and blue flowers, detailed with fine white lines and bright colour patches, depict a variety of species in a traditional Alpine folk style against a weathered brown ground.
The sides rest on elegantly shaped feet, and the tall rectangular form provides generous storage while serving as a striking display piece. A fine Alpine folk chest with a distinctive patina and rustic character.
