Item Description
An early 20th-century French oil painting on board, depicting a barren, mountainous landscape typical of Provence. Three figures gather by a cliff covered in grasses, with a forest behind and a cloudy sky above. It is rendered in an earthy palette of sand and ochre hues, contrasting with the blue of the sky and the red of the figures’ clothes. One figure is seated while another leans towards a child, adding a narrative element, along with the path in the foreground and the figures’ diminutive scale against the dry expanse of the cliff. Dynamic brushwork throughout adds a sense of movement, animating the clouds and grasses with the wind moving through the landscape.
Presented in a reverse gilded frame. An evocative Provence landscape with a strong sense of place.
