An early 20th-century Italian oil painting on board, depicting a landscape with a cluster of trees beside fields and a hill, with a mountain range in the distance. Expansive space is rendered through a layered composition, in which thin, tall trees give way to the grassy slope of the hill, contrasting with the rocky peaks of the Alps in a landscape typical of Northern Italy. The trees are painted in a vibrant camaïeu of greens, set against the light grey of the mountains and the blue of the sky. Light, repetitive brushwork adds movement and an almost naive quality to the scene, which contrasts with the sharp peaks and the impressive scale of the work.

Presented in a period gilt and brown painted frame with a wide moulding, giving the piece a striking presence. Stamped on the reverse for the Painting Prize of the Casa d’Arte, Golfo della Spezia.
