Item Description
This is a glorious antique Italian sculpture of the Winged Victory that dates from the mid 19th century. Discovered recently in Rome this magnificent bronze statue is mounted on a black and white marble base. With her wings fully open and her foot resting on a globe, the magnificent angel firmly holds a laurel wreath - the symbol of triumph. Since classical times and throughout centuries, artists have been fascinated by this powerful figure that was adapted in many ways and diplayed in many prominant places, such as today in front of the National Monument Vittorio Emanuele II in Rome. This particular example was masterfully created as a Grand Tour souvenir and it measures about 63.5 x 22.5 x 30.5 cm or approximately 25 x 9 x 8 inches [including the base]. It is in lovely antique condition with minor signs of ageing expected from the items of this period. There are a few minor chips on the marble base which is hardly noticable.
