Item Description
A good dark rich brown leather hall porter's chair of hooded form, in the Georgian manner with deep buttoned interior. Circa 1960.
Overall in good condition, with a nicely worn patina commensurate with age and use. There are some scuff marks and areas of wear to the leather, adding to its character. There is a small area of leather to the front which appears to have been glued down at some point in the past, this is secure and stable. All of the stud work is intact, these all show wear with rusting to the lower studs. The chair has been cleaned and nourished with a natural leather balsam. Structurally sound throughout.
The original hessian base cloth is absent, although this allows the webbing and beechwood construction to be clearly viewed and confirms that both remain intact. The castors have been replaced with early 20th century examples and have brown porcelain wheels, which lend the chair a more authentic period appearance.
