Danish teak desk chair designed by Harbo Sølvsten c 1955
A lovely chair that would have been made in small numbers at the time as this model rarely comes up for sale. In solid teak with contrasting rosewood feet it’s beautifully made as you’d expect. The use of a darker wood for the feet was a feature of a number of quality pieces in the late 1950’s and would have added to the production costs and thus the selling price at the time.
Harbo Sølvsten is one of many talented Danish designers of the time who is only known for a few designs today. It’s incredible how a country of Denmark’s size produced so many really good designers in the 1950’s and 60’s.
It was re-upholstered about 10 years ago with a different seat cushion which we’ve now replaced. We have another of these chairs available if you are looking for a pair.
65cms at widest, back height 84cms, seat height 47cms
Condition
The wood has been cleaned and oiled and is looking great. As with all vintage pieces you must expect to see some minor signs of wear if you look very closely.
