Item Description
Orrefors late Deco glass ice bucket, jug and decanter
Designed and first produced in around 1940 the Platina range was designed by Vicke Lindstrand and produced by Sweden’s most famous glass maker Orrefors Vicke Lindstrand worked as a designer for Orrefors in the 1930’s before joining Upsala Ekeby ceramics as their chief designer, and then moving to Kosta glass in 1950 as their very successful chief designer. One of the most prolific glass designers of his time he easily moved from Art Deco to Mid-Century designs. Whilst other countries were affected by the 2nd World War a neutral Sweden carried on without any economic problems so companies like Orrefors continued making luxury items like the Platina range for their thriving home market, then exporting successfully once the War ended.
The Platina range has a lovely ice effect finish which works beautifully on the simple Modernist late Deco shapes.
We have also listed a pair of different decanters from the same range along with matching cocktail glasses, most of which have original labels rather than engraved marks. The design of the ice bucket is shown in the 1940 Orrefors catalogue as is a related water jug.
The ice bucket would also make a great vase. It’s 21cms high and 22.5cms in diameter. It has engraved makers and model number marks. It’s heavy at over 2.8kgs . On it’s own it’s priced at £225.
The water jug is 20cms high and weighs around 1.5kgs. It’s not marked. Price on it’s own at £125.
The decanter is 23cms in height, and would make a great large perfume bottle. It’s also not marked. Price on it’s own at £100
