Item Description
Pair of Guy Rogers New Yorker armchairs by George Fejer
A lovely pair of 1960’s Danish style solid afrormosia armchairs with new wool upholstery in a muted dull moss colour. Afrormosia is sometimes called African teak but is a slightly darker wood that was used by good British makers in the early and Mid 1960’s.
These are the high backed version of this design. At the time of listing we also have a single low back one and have the matching 3 seat sofa for sale which is upholster to order.
Guy Rogers were the main British makers of contemporary upholstered furniture in the 1960’s using a talented design team of George Fejer ( consultant designer ) and Eric Pamphillon ( in-house designer ) to design their stylish ranges. These lovely chairs could have easily come from Scandinavia with their sculptured frames but if they had been they would of been be a lot more expensive. These are the high back version from the range they called The New Yorker.
Expensive when new, so weren’t sold in large numbers.
67.5cms width, back height of frame 84cms seat height 46cms
Condition
The frames have been fully cleaned and oiled and are in great condition . The webbing is new Pirelli rubber webbing as per used originally. Pirelli webbing is a lot more expensive than normal upholstery webbing but it usually lasts 40 to 50 years. The seats have foam fillers and the backs are fiber filled which give a softer feel and look. New zipped cushions covers are in an Abraham Moon Melton wool. The colour is very muted, neutral, greeny grey, sage kind of colour.
As with all vintage furniture you do have to expect to see some minor signs of wear if you look very closely.
