Pair of Toothill low back Lynton chairs 1966

Toothill of Newton Aycliffe made some lovely stylish afrormosia and teak framed armchairs and sofas in the 1960’s. This model we haven’t had before was called Lynton. We bought them along with a high back chair and a swivel stool from the family of the original owner who bought them new in 1966.

Toothill started in the 1950’s as makers of loose covers at a time when new upholstered furniture was very expensive. By the 1960’s they had grown considerably and like their larger rivals Guy Rogers they produced some beautifully made upholstered furniture. They continued for many years but as fashions changed the lovely wood show frames were no longer made, so the 1960’s were a golden period for them and others.

Dimensions: Width 70cm, depth 74cm back height 70cm.

Condition
The lovely wood frames have been fully cleaned and oiled and now look as good as when they were first made. The seats have had new webbing and base liner. Our price includes new upholstery to current UK standards, but excludes fabric.
