Set of Mogens Kold teak chairs 6, 8 or 10

One of the rarer 1960’s models designed by Arne Hovmand Olsen for the quality Danish maker Mogens Kold. They’re not labelled, but we’ve had the same model before which were. The lovely sculptured back is a typical feature of Olsen’s designs in the 1960’s.

We have 10 in total and will only sell them in sets of 6, 8 or 10 at this point. Only 4 are shown at present which have all been completely cleaned with new papercord seats, the others are currently being done.

The best British cabinet making in the 1960’s was as good as the best Danish, but in chair making Danish makers were far more accomplished so could make an array of fabulous designs like these ones.

From experience papercord starts to wear through after 40 or 50 years of fairly regular use, and longer for those that have been little used. It’s a very time taking process so the going rate to replace seats is about £120 a chair. We now have someone local to do the seats, so if you need some doing get in touch.

Condition
All will be cleaned and oiled like the 4 shown and will have new papercord seats even though some we have are still in useable condition.

We didn’t buy them together and there are slight differences in manufacture. Some have solid teak backs, but others have laminated teak backs so you’ll see a lighter stripe in the middle, these are probably of later date, but are otherwise identical.

sAs with all vintage furniture you must expect to see some very small signs of wear if you look very closely.

We see a lot of Mogens Kold pieces without labels as a lot of high end retailers like Heals didn’t like to sell branded products .

Most people in the 1960’s only bought 4 dining chairs , with a few buying sets of 6 , but sets of 8 are extremely rare . In the 1970’s it was mostly 6 with a few buying 8 . This means finding original larger sets of 8 or 10 is very hard so we do spend time matching chairs to make larger sets for people .
