Item Description

18th Century Medical Syringe

Turned bone syringe for medical use and dating from the 18th century, and certainly from the beginning of the 18th century. This hand-crafted example is made to a high quality, particularly for the handle and the two very rounded ends of the piston. The syringe has a few defects and retains a beautiful original patina. Its 18th century medical or surgical syringes with short tips were certainly for ophthalmological or ENT use. Both ends unscrew and it still has its original cotton string stopper in place after all these years, a rare object of medical history.
