Item Description
This 17th century old English studded oak door is a rare survivor from history. Steeped in character, this unusual antique door offers a glimpse into 17th century England, an era ruled by the Stuart monarchy and witness to notable events such as the great fire of London and the notorious gunpowder plot.
It’s construction is unusual – the 1.32m height not usable as a traditional door – but sturdy, with a studded oak plank structure and remnants of old hardware. With its worn, rustic look, this ancient door will make a brilliant feature piece of a traditional country cottage or farmhouse. It could even be repurposed, making a unique coffee table or decorative panel, steeped in stories and history!
CONDITION REPORT
Good structural condition. Sturdy. Traces of old insect activity (inactive) and wood decay as to be expected of a door of this age. Has one hinge, part of latch and a bolt to the back. Nails/studs are hammered through and folded at the back for strength.
