Item Description
G Plan early 1970’s Housemaster teak swivel chair with new upholstery.
The original G Plan Housemaster chair was launched in 1970/71. It looks really stunning and stylish from the back but that over heavy 1970’s upholstery spoils the look from the front. It’s extremely comfortable but too 1970’s in its approach perhaps so we’ve pared the upholstery back a little. We see a few of these but only buy them when the wood and the chrome is in really good vintage condition, a lot are not.
This Housemaster has had all new foam cushions to meet current UK standards. It is upholstered in a lovely new dark wool boucle.
The G Plan Housmaster chair was designed by Keith Wilkins who was a G Plan in-house designer but surprisingly no relation to Victor Wilkins who was their best known designer in the 1960’s and 1970’s. We’ve sold a number of these super comfortable chairs over the years .
Condition
The teak and chrome are in really good vintage condition with only small knocks to the teak veneer and only light pitting to the chrome which is mostly hidden , but see photos . As with any vintage item you do have to expect to see some minor signs of wear if you look very closely.
New foam cushions to comply with fire standards.
Our upholsterer has put a lot of time and effort into coming up with a much more stylish pared down look that doesn’t make any sacrifice in terms of comfort. Here is the result of her work. It now looks as smart from the front and sides as it does from the back and yes it’s still great to sit on for hour after hour after hour !!! Seat height 36cms
