Item Description
Holmegaard triangular freeform glass bowl by Per Lutken
Per Lutken was the master of simple elegant forms in glass that were then produced by the highly skilled glass blowers and craftsman at the Danish makers Holmegaard. Scandinavian glass was at it’s height in the 1950’s and 60’s thanks to a few amazing designers such as Lutken who for 3 decades continued to produce an astonishing number of successful designs. Like so many of his pieces there is a simple elegance which combined with the skill of the glass blowers to produce beautiful pieces like this. It’s free formed so each one made will have been slightly different in size.
This one is in a typical blue tinged glass, but can also be found in a greenish tinge . Designed in the 1950’s and made into the mid 1960’s, up until about 1962 these bowls would be dated to the year of manufacture, but then after that they were given a 5 figure engraved number as well as the PL monogram for the designer and the Holmegaard name. Later in the 1960’s these engraved marks were stopped for most pieces and replaced by sticky labels saving some cost no doubt.
These weren’t cheap mass produced pieces and took tremendous skill
